Peter "Pete" Francis Caviezel, 81, originally of Buckley, Washington, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Carteret Landing Assisted Living and Memory Care, surrounded by family.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 7th at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Theresa Catholic Church in Ashburn, Virginia.
Born on April 8, 1942, Pete was the fifth of nine children of the late Clarence and Helen Caviezel. He came from a Swiss dairy heritage and learned the value of hard work at a young age. He loved basketball and though short, he was very fast with the ball. He often recalled how he'd blow by other players and feed the ball to his older brother for the layup.
Raised as a devoted Catholic, Pete served as an altar boy and gave serious thought to entering the priesthood. That journey was cut short when he was drafted into the Army during peacetime between the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Stationed in Nuremberg, Germany, he was responsible for providing unencrypted classified messages to the top brass during a time that included the Russian missile crisis and the Bay of Pigs.
After his honorable discharge in 1964, he eventually started his business with the State Farm Insurance Company where he remained for the next forty years. A self-made man with an incredible work ethic, Pete established a thriving insurance business where he provided insurance products and services to multiple generations of families over his years in business. His long-term employees were also important to him, and he made sure their needs and the needs of their family members were taken care of beyond a paycheck. Both his customers and employees were like family to him.
Above all, Pete was a giving and loving man who provided for the needs of family, friends and those less fortunate than himself. His generosity of spirit will forever be remembered.
Those remaining to honor his memory are his daughter, Lorena Duncan and son-in law, Dwight "Ike" Duncan; his brother, James Caviezel and his wife Maggie; his sister, Mary Faley; his brother, Frank Caviezel; his sister, Rosalia Caviezel; and beloved nephews and nieces.
