“Chip” Percy Melvin Gibson, Jr., 72 of Marshallberg, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville surrounded by his family.

The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 pm Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Munden Funeral Home.

Chip honorably served his country for 6 years in the U.S. Navy. He loved people and never met a stranger. A unique soul that loved his friends and family. All those that knew him as Poppy will greatly miss him.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Sheila Gibson of the home; daughter, Tonya Gibson Seely of Harkers Island; son, Dustin L. Gibson and wife Jessica O.Gibson of Newport; sister, Brenda Aydelette of Greensboro; seven grandchildren, Brittany Pinto and husband Paul, Brandon Bowen, Brooke Seely, Breanna Seely, Daven Gibson, Grace Gibson, and Payton Gibson; two great-grandchildren, Chandler Pinto and Jaxon Bowen; also numerous nieces, nephews, and adopted grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy Melvin Gibson, Sr., and Edith June Swink Gibson; sister, Linda Murphy; and a niece, Dana Adayette Lopez.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
