Pauline P. "Polly" Mattmiller, 75, passed away at home in Havelock, NC surrounded by her family and friends, December 16, 2011, after a long illness.
A viewing will take place 6:00-8:00 pm Monday at Munden Funeral Home and Crematory, 2112 Arendell St., Morehead City, NC, followed by a funeral service at 10:00am Tuesday, December 20, in the Chapel at the same location.
Polly was born November 19, 1936 to Elvis and Ruth Patterson in Mangum, Okla. She was a graduate of Oklahoma Women's College. She was a teacher for a short time in Denver Colorado, before joining the USMC in 1959. After receiving her commission as 2nd Lieutenant, she was stationed at Parris Island, SC, where she met the love of her life USMC1st Lieutenant, W.L. Mattmiller. The couple soon married.They had two sons John P. Mattmiller and Daniel J. Mattmiller. They lived in various duty stations around the US. Polly worked as a Den Mother in the Cub Scouts and served as a Finance Counselor for Navy Relief. She worked toward her master's degree in Couseling at both the University of Oklahoma and New Orleans. She loved to read, to relax and chat with family and friends, with a smile on her face and warmth in her heart. She also enjoyed quilting and sewing.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years Willard of the home: her son Daniel Mattmiller of Norman, Oklahoma, and many relatives and life-long friends: two brothers Elvis M. Patterson of Chotawok, Ok, and Gerald Patterson of Oklahoma City, Ok.
She was proceeded in death by her oldest son, John P. Mattmiller of Havelock,NC: her mother and father Ruth and Elvis Patterson.
