Paula Landi Clearwater, 45, of Newport, died Thursday, March 5, 2010, following a long, valiant battle with illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Paula graduated from Carteret Community College with a degree in Recreation Therapy. She was employed by Miss Nancy's Early Learning Center. Her classroom and managerial abilities were quickly apparent, and she served as Director of the Morehead City Centers for many years. She also was Director at Trinity Preschool in Havelock until illness forced her retirement. Paula was truly a "kid magnet", who children loved and parents trusted. she was widely known and respected as an advocate for children and families, with immeasurable impact and lasting influence. Paula loved spending time with her family and friends and especially enjoyed trips with them to Myrtle Beach. She and her husband Dale, were avid members of the Twin Rivers Corvette Club. She also, was a very strong supporter of Relay for Life. Though struggling against a relentless foe, she was cheerful and courageous. After seeing her daughter, Krystal, graduate early from West Carteret High School, she was reluctantly ready to go on to her heavenly home. She will be dearly missed, though her sweet spirit will live on as an inspiration to everyone who was blessed to know her.
Services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday at All Saints Anglican Church with Rev. David B. Linka officiating. Interment will follow in Amariah Garner Cemetery.
In addition to her husband and daughter, Krystal, she is survived by a son, Travis Clearwater of the home; parents, Faye and Paul Landi of Havelock; sisters, Denise Smith of Havelock and Linda Shearer of Pittsburgh, PA; brothers, Tony Landi of Martinsville, VA and Paul Richard Landi, II of Pittsburgh, PA.
The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Monday at Munden Funeral Home.
