Paul Weston Wilson, 80, of Newport, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
A memorial service for Paul will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Holly Springs Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Mitchell Parker officiating.
Born to Jather and Lula Pauline McVicker Wilson. Paul is the oldest of six children, four sisters; Allie Mae Wilson Morton, Janice Ann Wilson Mears, Marion Lee Wilson, Marilla Jean Wilson Stevens, one brother; Robert David Wilson.
Paul has lived in many places and accomplished many things. He lived in Vanceboro from birth until January 1954 when he moved to Pelletier until January 1955. His family then moved to Stella until sometime in 1956, after high school graduation in mid-1956 until April 1957 he and his family lived in Morehead City.
Paul joined the United States Air Force in April 1957 and left for Basic Training in Texas on Easter Monday. During his military career, he lived in several states, most liked was Maine. He was stationed in Texas, Illinois, New Mexico, New Hampshire from 1957 – 1962, while serving with the World Famed 509th Bomb Wing of WWII. Afterwards, he returned to his home state of North Carolina. He was Honorably Discharged from the USAF January 22, 1962. He continued his service during the Cold War Period (1945 – 1991) in the US Military Reserve, USCG, USA and USAF from 1962 – 1978.
Paul had several job experiences during his life after his military career. In February 1962, he worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad in Virginia, a very dangerous job working in the rail yard and on the rail line.
He later, in April 1962 worked with Hayes Air Craft Corp. in Elizabeth City, NC and left there in 1964 to work at USMC Air Station, Cherry Point, Civil Service. Paul worked at Cherry Point, until retirement in 1987. While working at Cherry Point he worked with NARF and worked with A6, EA6B, and Harrier AV8B Flight Simulators. He has done interim work with Wells Fargo and Sears. Since 1984 he has resided in the Newport area.
Paul was a member of Masonic Sea Side Lodge 429, Commemorative Air Force, American Legion and the NC Sherriff Association. He supported all branches of the Military.
Paul married his wife Dorothy Morton on September 22, 1956 and during their marriage while living in Kittery, Maine they had a son Paul “Dwayne” Wilson born January 1960. While living in Elizabeth City, NC had their second son Harold “Bryan” Wilson, born May 1963.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 24 years; Cathy Wilson of the home; sons, Dwayne Wilson, Bryan Wilson; step son, Thomas Duncan; step daughter, Sheila Klee; brother, Robert D. Wilson; sisters, Janice Mears, Marion Wilson.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; Jather Wilson and Lula McVicker Wilson; his first wife, Dorothy Morton; sisters, Allie Morton, Marilla Stevens.
