Paul Joseph Duval was born April 1, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, in Morehead City, North Carolina with family by his side. Paul applied his stubbornness and sense of humor to his battle with cancer and stayed strong until the end.
A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, September 16th at St. Egbert Catholic Church in Morehead City. The family invites you to join them for a reception following the service at the family home in Morehead City.
Growing up in southeastern Michigan, Paul’s love of cars led to a career at General Motors, where he won several employee awards. He enjoyed traveling with his family and exploring new places and was known for recalling destinations according to his favorite meals. His good humor and curiosity made it easy for him to find new friends wherever he went, and he was always entertaining others with stories of the interesting people he met along the way.
Paul was an outdoor enthusiast. He loved hiking and biking through the forests and parks of his native Michigan and was never without a bicycle in the back of his car. After relocating to Morehead City in 2015, Paul visited Fort Macon daily where he walked the beach, shared stories with the regulars, and absorbed the winds and waves of the ocean he loved.
Paul is survived by his wife Diane, with whom he shared 55 years of love, laughter and adventure. He was a devoted father to their daughter Michelle, always encouraging her endeavors. His humor and independent spirit will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made out Carteret Health Care Foundation and sent to P.O. Box 1519, Morehead City, NC 28557 to support other families needing hospice care. This organization is devoted specifically to hospice care.
