Patricia W. Martschenko (nee Klich), of Gloucester, NC, died Saturday the 23rd of March at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC, surrounded by loved ones.
Born September 10, 1938, in Chicago, IL, to the late Walter and Wallie Klich, Patricia devoted her life to service in her family, church and community. Having met her husband, Nicolas Martschenko at a Junior Red Cross event in high school, the two wed in Hamburg, NY, on September 27, 1958, and raised a family of six children. As a young mother, Patricia served as a volunteer in scouting, running the St. Michael’s Catholic Church kitchen and organizing church bazaars. More recently, she was an active member of the St. Egbert’s Ladies Guild.
Well-loved for her exceptional cooking skills, Patricia ran a successful catering business, Palate Pleasers, for many years in Cary, NC, prior to retiring with Nicolas to their coastal home in Gloucester. She was known for her compassionate care, her quick wit, her selfless humility, and above all, her devotion to her children and grandchildren, always willing to be there for every birthday, graduation and major event. Her legacy to her children was appreciating the eternal value of a loving family.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Nicolas Martschenko of Gloucester, NC, her two sisters, Geraldine M. Pstrzoch (James) and Barbara A. Luka (Gerald) of Elmhurst, IL, her six children, Alice P. Mask (James) of Grafton, MA, Carol M. Wroble (Stephen) of Dacula, GA, Elaine T. Hughes (Joseph) of Greenville, NC, William N. Martschenko (Laura) of Morrisville, NC, Daniel R. Martschenko (Christy) of Cary, NC, and Gail J. Byron (Robert) of Fuquay Varina, NC, and her thirteen grandchildren, Sara A. Hughes (Joseph), R. Justin Martschenko, Jayme M. Mask, Abbie M. Martschenko, Aaron N. Martschenko, Joseph B. Hughes, Jr., Alec D. Martschenko, Brian D. Martschenko, S. Cole Wroble, Malcolm G. Byron, Evan D. Martschenko, Parker A. Wroble and Maya K. Martschenko, as well as twenty-two nieces, nephews grandnieces and grandnephews. Her eight grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC from 7:00pm-9:00pm, with a Christian wake service at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 25, 2013, at 11:00am at St. Egberts Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas Davis officiating in Morehead, City, NC.
