Patricia Ann Hardesty, 84, of Beaufort, died September 15, 2018, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Beaufort, with burial to follow at Oceanview Cemetery. The family will welcome friends, after the service, at the Hardesty home on Ann Street in Beaufort.
Patsy was born to Lionel Gordon Hardesty and Callie Gillikin Hardesty on May 11, 1934 in Mill Creek at the Hardesty homeplace where her father had also been born. She moved to Beaufort in 1940 and went to Beaufort Graded School and graduated from Beaufort High School in 1952. She later attended East Carolina College. She worked at First Citizens Bank after college and was also the Office Manager for the family business Hardesty Motors for many years. After selling the dealership, she worked part time at The Ladies Shop and The Net House which she spoke of both of those jobs fondly. She retired as the Director of the Carteret County Board of Elections.
She was a dedicated daughter to her parents when their health began to fail and allowed them to both stay at home until their deaths. Patsy was a devoted aunt, and with no children of her own, she cherished her nieces and nephews. She had many friends and cousins who all adored her quick wit and fun personality. She loved to travel and had friends all over the world. Throughout her life Patsy enjoyed reading, going to Shackleford Banks and spending time on her front porch. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Beaufort, the Daughters of the American Revolution and Carteret County Republican Women’s Club.
She is survived by 5 nieces and nephews, Helen Hardesty Rooney and husband, Artie, of Summerville, South Carolina, Lionel Gordon Hardesty, III of Beaufort, Jerry Thomas Hardesty, Jr. and wife, Sheila, of New Bern, Caroline Hardesty Bird and husband, Stephen, of Holly Springs and Allison Hardesty Bernauer and husband, Korey, of Beaufort; 11 great nieces and nephews, Arthur, Elizabeth, Gordon, Russell, Joel, Trey, Jacob, Caleb, Reagan, Callie and Max; 8 great-great nieces and nephews, Caroline, William, Patrick, Erinn, Hunter, Noah, Zachary and Jacob; sisters-in-law, Karen Hardesty, Betty Hardesty and Anita Hardesty; her best friend, Joyce Fulford; and many other friends and relatives.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; and brothers, Lionel Gordon Hardesty, Jr. and Jerry Thomas Hardesty.
