Otis Pittman

Otis Spencer Pittman, 83, of Salter Path died peacefully in his home on Thursday July 12, 2012.

He is preceded in death by his parents Flora Belle Smith Pittman and James Pittman: his brothers Gary Pittman and Jack Pittman: his sisters Mildred (Tillie) P. Willis, and Helen P. Frost.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Carolyn D. Pittman: his daughters Tammy P. Frost and spouse Joey, Telena P. Willis and spouse Donald all of Salter Path, NC: grandchildren Matthew K. Frost and spouse Michelle of Goldsboro, NC, Ashley R. Willis, Wade D. Willis III (Trey) of Salter Path, NC: great grandchildren Noah Spencer Frost, Maddox R. Frost, and Leah M. Smith of Goldsboro, NC : brother Jerry M. Pittman and spouse Yvonne: sisters Betty P. Willis and Katie P. Barefoot and spouse Herbie all of Salter Path.

Otis was a North Carolina native, born in Salter Path, NC December 25th 1928. Otis was a veteran of Korean War. He served Osaka Japan as a Corporal in the 561st MP-C Battalion Company. He also played guitar for an army base band. He was employed for many years as a commercial fisherman. He was a Master carpenter responsible for many of the beautiful homes located on Bogue Banks.

Otis was an avid guitar player and great lover of country music. He was a member of a local band The Melody Boys and later formed a band/comedy show, The Carolina Hayride Caravan.

Otis was a member of Salter Path United Methodist Church for 54 years where he played guitar each Sunday during services.

Otis loved spending time with his family and ensured that each year a family vacation was enjoyed and made memorable for all. Otis will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and adoring grandfather. He will be deeply missed by the members of his life-long community of Salter Path where he was well respected and considered a generous, thoughtful, and kind spirit.

Visitation will be held at 6:00-8:00 pm Saturday at Salter Path United Methodist Church. Services will be 11:00 am Sunday at Salter Path United Methodist Church.
