Ormand Lee Thomas, died Saturday, April 24, 2010, at his home. Funeral service will be 11:00am, Tuesday, at the Harkers Island Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Paul Lofton, Jerry Langley, and Jonathan Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in Straits United Methodist Church cemetery.
Ormand, originally from New Bern, graduated from New Bern High School, served his country from 1950-1952 with the US Army in Military Intelligence in Korea, retired from Cherry Point in 1986. He was a devoted member of the Harkers Island Pentecostal Holiness Church for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Ellen; three daughters, Diane Benton and husband James ?Sonny?, Margaret Johnson and husband Chris, both of Straits, and Jeanette Culley and husband John of New Bern; son, Ormand Lee Thomas, Jr., of Marshallberg; sister, Elizabeth Thomas of New Bern; brother, Doug Thomas, of Surf City; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Monday, at the church.
The family welcomes flowers or memorial donations may be made to the Harkers Island Pentecostal Holiness Church.
