Omma "Joann" Avery

Omma "Joann" Avery, 87, of Newport, NC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

Joann, born on February 25, 1937, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to the late Claude and Ruby Caldwell, touched the lives of many with her kindness and warmth. She will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, an affectionate mother, and a cherished grandmother. Her legacy of support and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her loving daughter, Joetta Guist and husband Michael of Newport, NC; sisters, Delores Coward and husband Gary of Spring, TX, Deann Allison and husband Don of Cypress, TX, and Nevy Bramlett of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Travis Guist, Brandon Avery, and Brittany Avery; and great-granddaughter, Katherine Guist.

In addition to her parents, Joann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willis Lee Avery Jr. in 1997; son, Lee Avery; brother, Jimmy Caldwell; sister, Ola Lewis; and grandson, Tyler Guist.

Joann will be laid to rest privately, next to her husband, at the Coastal Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
