Olive Page Jarman, 79, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
A native of Weymouth, Massachusetts, she loved to ice skate and dance. While attending high school she noticed a Beaufort, NC Marine named Major Jarman, Sr., who was ashore on leave. The two fell in love and after a brief courtship and her graduation, were married. She followed him to Beaufort where they made their home. They were blessed with 2 children, Major Lee, Jr. and Alice Dawn.
Olive soon began work at Stamper’s Jewelers where she worked for over 45 years and was the manager. She engraved many items, replaced watch batteries and special ordered many items for locals and tourists alike. She was active with her children’s school, supporting their time in band at East Carteret High School. Mrs. Jarman was also very active with both children in their Scouting pursuits.
The family belonged to Tuttle's Grove United Methodist Church and she served as Lay Leader, vacation Bible school teacher and anywhere else she was needed. Her hobbies included cooking, cross stitching, sewing, crocheting, and reading her Bible. In 1993, she earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science for Business Administration from Carteret Community College.
She is survived by her sister, Sarah Jane Pursley; son, Major Lee Jarman, Jr.; daughter, Alice Jarman Powell and husband John-David Powell; grandchildren, Major Lee Jarman, III, Jacob-Christopher Powell, and Alyssa Brooke Powell; and many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
Olive was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra Whitaker Brooks, Sr. and Alice Wilder Brooks; brothers, Roland Allen Brooks, Gerald Edward Brooks, and Ezra Whitaker, Jr.; and husband, Major Lee Jarman, Sr.
A funeral service to honor Olive’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 7th at Tuttle's Grove Methodist Church on Hwy 101 in Beaufort, officiated by Rev. Homer Morris. A brief commitment service will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park in Newport. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, June 6th at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or Tuttle's Grove Methodist Church.
