A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 3rd at the Hebrew Cemetery in New Bern, North Carolina.
Norm grew up in Brooklyn, New York before moving to New Bern. He was a Korean War Veteran in the Army training with the 101st Airborne Division One and served with the 40th Infantry Division. His 1952 war photos are in the permanent archives of the Asian Arts Institute in New York City and documented in his book and paintings and the Library of Congress.
Norm was a prolific frequent award-winning artist painting whimsical, joyful paintings every day even while seriously ill up till his death. Most of his art was destroyed in the 2011 hurricane but he still managed to produce over 300 extraordinary paintings since then. Norm and his very musically talented family are the subject of an upcoming film, "Treasures of an Artist, Writer, Musician and an Angel," written by his friend and housemate, Andrea Levinson, also formerly from New Bern.
He is survived by sons, Randy and Michael Rabinowitz of New Bern, NC and brother-in-law Bob Lance of Tarrytown, NY.
