Nora Faye Guthrie Dixon, 83, of Beaufort, NC, formerly of the Promise Land, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
A funeral service to honor Nora’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 14th at First Free Will Baptist Church of Beaufort, officiated by Rev. Richard Patterson. Interment will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, February 13th at First Free Will Baptist Church of Beaufort.
Nora was born on June 13, 1941, in Morehead City, NC, to the late Frederick and Pearl Guthrie. A dedicated member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Beaufort, Nora contributed her time and talents by singing in the choir and working in the kitchen. Known for her nurturing care and keeping everyone in line, she was lovingly nicknamed "Granny".
Nora's creativity was seen throughout her life, from her work as a floral designer to her beautifully crocheted items. She found joy in making clothing for Samaritans Purse and Operation Christmas Child, sharing her talents with those in need. Nora took pride in her plants and delighted loved ones with her exceptional cooking, creating meals that brought family and friends together.
In 1958, Nora married her sweetheart, Donald Gray, they were blessed with 34 years together before his passing in 1992. She will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, a supportive mother, and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. Nora’s spirit and kindness will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Suzanne G. Willis (Roland) of Beaufort; son, Donald Gray Dixon Jr. of Beaufort; brother, William A. Guthrie (Janet) of Beaufort; daughters-in-law, Patricia L. Dixon and Lou Ann Dixon; grandchildren, Heather D. Bissette (Greg), Zackery E. Dixon (Amanda), Jessica W. Cooper (Zachary), Amelia D. Willis (Bobby), and Avery Caroline Willis; and great-grandchildren, Aiden Cooper, Easton Bissette, Caden Bissette, Miles Cooper, and Logan Dixon.
In addition to her parents, Nora was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Gray Dixon; son, Danny Paul Dixon; sisters, Virginia Bryan and Betty Lou Whaley; brothers, Frederick D. Guthrie Jr. and Donald Perry Guthrie; and granddaughter, Kimberly Pearl Willis.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
