Nina Tamber, 99, of New Bern, North Carolina, died Monday, January 23, 2023, at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern.
Nina was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 2, 1923. Her future husband of 73 years, Jerry, lived just a few doors away from her by the time she met him at the age of 14. They lived in Brooklyn until they moved to Freeport, New York where they lived for forty years and raised their daughters.
Nina was a homemaker and very involved with her Temple, being an active member and sometimes president in Sisterhood, B'nai Brith, and Hadassah, besides writing, printing, and mailing the Temple's monthly newsletter. She was also very involved with her extended family, staying in touch with relatives as far as California and Israel.
When Jerry retired, they moved to Boynton Beach, Florida where they lived for over 10 years. After that, they moved to New Bern to McCarthy Court, and then to Homeplace which was her final residence.
Nina is survived by her daughters, Abbie Tamber of Oxford, NY and Mattie Czyzyk and her husband Richard of Beaufort, NC.
Nina will be remembered for having a definite opinion about things and always making sure she had her gloves and sunglasses whenever she went out.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, January 27th at United Hebrews of New Bern Cemetery, followed by a Remembrance Service at Temple B'nai Sholem in New Bern.
The family will have limited visitation at Homplace thru Monday.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Temple B'nai Sholem, 505 Middle Street, New Bern, NC 28560.
