Nina Penny Gray, 94, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
A graveside service to honor Nina’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 10th at Gethsemane Memorial Park, officiated by Pastor Dennis Evans and Charlie Ward Jr. The family will receive friends following the service. Please dress casually and in bright colors to honor our mother who loved bright colored flowers.
Nina was born on April 12, 1930, in Richlands, NC, to the late Gladys and Derah Horne Penny. She was the oldest of 8 children.
In 1950, she married the love of her life, George Gray Sr., and together they had 7 children. She retired from Atlantic Veneer.
Nina loved to cook for her family and all the children in the neighborhood. She would stay up all night before big holidays to cook a big feast with her daughter Sandy.
Her biggest joy in life was being a “Granny”.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her children, George Gray Jr., Ina Long (David), Doug Gray (Susan), and Bo Gray, all of Newport, Ronald Gray Sr. (Linda) of Morehead City, NC, and Paul Gray (Erica) of Lumberton, NC; son-in-law, Henry Turner of Newport, NC; sisters, Sue Denny and Betty Garner; brothers, Jimmy Penny and Johnny Penny; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Nina was preceded in death by her husband, George Gray Sr.; daughter, Sandra Gray Turner; brothers, Bill Penny and Ernest Penny; sister, Faye Penny; and granddaughter, Krystal Mizell.
