In 1981, Nicky proudly founded Harvey & Sons Net and Twine, which marked the beginning of a successful journey in business. His vision expanded in 1990 with the introduction of crab pots, and in 1999, alongside his son Dennis, he co-founded the Core Sound Crab Pot Christmas Trees, a cherished tradition in Carteret County that many families looked forward to each season. In 2020, his daughter joined the family business renaming it Harvey & Sons & Daughter Net and Twine.
Beyond his professional achievements, Nicky was deeply rooted in his community and faith. He was an active member of Williston Methodist Church, where he served faithfully as Sunday School Superintendent for five years. His dedication extended to the Crissie Wright Lodge #741 A.F. & A.M. in Smyrna, reflecting his commitment to service and fellowship.
Known affectionately by his nicknames "Tricky Nicky" and "Trick," Nicky's playful spirit was seen in everything he did. He entertained those around him with magic tricks and card performances. Affectionally known as the "Candy Man" his generosity in sharing sweets put a smile one quite a few faces.
In his leisure time, Nicky enjoyed hunting and had a special bond with his dogs, always enjoying their lively adventures in the fields. He was passionate about softball and played a pivotal role in organizing the Down East Church Softball League and the Williston Softball Team. His zest for life was evident on the dance floor, where he enjoyed line dancing and embraced every opportunity to celebrate and have fun.
Nicky's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, he will be remembered for his caring nature, infectious laughter, and unwavering faith. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the community he so greatly impacted.
