Nancy Carol Mitchell Smith Shelton, Commerce Avenue, Morehead City, NC was born October 19, 1934 in Guliford County and died on October 15, 2012 following a short illness. She was 77 years old.
She was the daughter of the late Nellie Gray Glosson and Samuel Spencer Mitchell of Brown Summit, NC. She graduated from Monticello School, in Guliford County and completed a commercial course in Greensboro.
She is survived by her daughter, LaDonna Carol Smith Venters and her husband Cecil Timothy Venters of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, grandsons Derek Lee Thorsen of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Benjamin Shane Thorsen, of Denver, CO and her Sister Barbara Mithcell Parramore of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by a host of friends with whom she has enjoyed companionship through many years including searching for antiques and winning prizes in bridge and golf. Especially devoted are her Saturday morning gatherings with Jane Venters, Sandy Sneesby, Louise Edmundson, and Betty Kinnier.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Thomas Benjamin Smith (died July 1964) and by her late husband Charles Thomas Shelton (died January 2002), brothers James Spencer Mitchell and Robert Shreve Mitchell, and a sister Mabel Elizabeth Mitchell.
Services will be held on Friday, October 19, at 11:00 am, at Munden Funeral Home Chapel, 2112 Arendell St. Morehead City, NC. The family will visit with friends upon completion of services on Friday.
