Myrtha M. Rodriquez, 70, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Carteret Health Care.
A memorial service to honor Myrtha’s life will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, March 23rd at Cherry Point Church of Christ, officiated by Eric Doughtery. The family will receive friends following the service.
Myrtha was born on June 17, 1953, in Patillas, Puerto Rico, to the late Pablo and Luisa Rivas.
Her career at UGI Bethlehem PA was a testament to her unwavering work ethic and dedication. She began working with the company during high school and quickly rose through the ranks to become the first woman to hold the position of Manager in the company. Her commitment to her work was seen throughout her long and dedicated career.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Myrtha was a woman of deep faith, finding peace and strength in her relationship with the Lord. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and the warmth she exuded to all who crossed her path. Myrtha never met a stranger and had a special way of making everyone feel welcome. Her passion for sewing and giving back to others was seen through the numerous handbags and laundry bags that she made and gave to others. She included a Bible in each bag which was a special ministry that was dear to her heart.
In her leisure time, Myrtha enjoyed getting lost in a good book and the challenge of a good puzzle. She loved to walk and Fort Benjamin, always happy to see others out enjoying the sunshine. Her love for travel and meeting new people reflected her adventurous spirit and zest for life.
Myrtha was a strong role model for everyone she knew or who knew her. She had a keen sense of right and wrong and would always help children make the morally right decision. Myrtha’s remarkable life touched the lives of many. May her legacy of faith, kindness, and joy continue to inspire us all.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her loving son, Francisco “Frank” Angel Rodriquez III and wife Gretchen of Newport; sisters, Iris Melendez and Ivonne Rivas, both of Bethlehem, PA, Judy Diaz of Hollywood, FL, Evelyn Rivas of Mexico, MO, and Caroline Cuevas of Waynesville, MO; brothers, Hector “Tito” Ortiz of Scranton, PA, and Pablo Rivas Jr. of Bethlehem, PA; granddaughter, Liliana Luisa Rodriquez; and numerous loving niece and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Myrtha was preceded in death by her brother, Oswaldo “Ozzie” Rivas.
