Mr. George Alexander Thomas, 78, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021, at Vidant Medical Center.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the New Bern Seventh Day Adventist Church, officiated by Pastor George Wennerberg. Interment, with military honors, will follow at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m., prior to the service.

George Thomas was born on March 6, 1943, in Antigua, West Indies, to the late Adolphus and Millicent Thomas. He completed his elementary education in Antigua and completed his secondary education in Port of Spain, Trinidad. After he completed his schooling, he worked for the United States Information Services (USIS) as a photographer and public information specialist.
In 1962, he came to the United States and attended the New York Institute of Photography. In 1963, he entered the United States Army where he served as a photographer and film processor. During his service, Mr. Thomas attended the New York Institute of Photography for three years and the New York School of Visual Arts for one year. After reentering civilian life, he met and married the beautiful Eunice Bramble in 1968. From this union of over 53 years came their five children: Curlette, Vincent, Rosanna, William, and Vernon.
In 1972, George entered the trucking industry and transported commodities throughout the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. During one of his many routes, he fell in love with upstate New York and relocated his family to Ellenville in 1978 where they lived for 30 years. In 2008, George and Eunice relocated to Newport, North Carolina where they continued their retirement life while serving the local community.
Over the years, Mr. Thomas contributed to his communities, sharing his talents with numerous churches and organizations. He joyfully served as an organist for many congregations. While living in Ellenville, New York, he played for the Seventh Day Adventist Church, the United Methodist Church, Shiloh Baptist Church, St. Paul AME Zion, and Christ Church Ministries. After retirement, he then played for the Jacksonville Calvary Seventh Day Adventist Church and most recently at New Bern Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mr. Thomas also volunteered with the Seventh Day Adventist Church Food Pantry Program, various nursing homes, prison ministries, and youth ministries.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eunice Lillian Thomas; his daughter, Curlette Reid and spouse Errol Reid of Apopka, Florida; his daughter, Rosanna Thomas Haywood and spouse Jason Haywood of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; his son, Vincent Thomas and spouse Melanie Thomas of Brookeville, Maryland; his son, William Thomas and spouse Nicole Thomas of Mitchellville, Maryland; his son, Vernon Thomas and spouse Linda Thomas of Windsor, Colorado; his sister, Myona Greenaway of Newark, New Jersey; his sister, Wendy Thomas of New Rochelle, New York; his brother, Aubrey Thomas and spouse Rebecca of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands; his brother, Brian Thomas and spouse Nadia of Bronx, New York; his grandchildren, Errol Reid, Evette Reid, Andrew Reid, Alexia Thomas, Cameron Thomas, Natalie Thomas, Brenden Thomas, Olivia Thomas, and Jasmine Haywood; great grandchildren, Elijah Reid and Ellianna Reid; and many nieces and nephews.
