Monroe Paylor, 80, of Harkers Island, NC died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Carteret General Hospital.
His funeral service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday at Harkers Island United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brad Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Vergie Mae Cemetary.
He was born February 6, 1931 on Harkers Island. His parents were James and Nancy Paylor. He had three brothers and one sister.
He graduated from Harkers Island High School. He served in the US Navy and retired from Civil Service at Cherry Point, NC.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth Wooten Paylor; son, Craig Paylor and companion, Tara Mitchell of Morehead City, NC; daughter, Linda Paylor Smith and husband, Jeff of Wake Forest, NC; three grandchildren, Matthew Paylor, Brandon Smith, and Brianna Smith; and brother, Edwin Paylor of Harkers Island, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nancy Paylor; brothers, James Paylor and Mervin Paylor; sister, Ida Paylor Davis; and beloved son, Jeffrey Kent Paylor.
Visitation will be held Monday from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Harkers Island United Methodist Church.
