Miriam “Mimi” Turton, 90, Pine Knoll Shores, NC, was promoted to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 12, 2025.
Formerly a resident of Spring Lake Heights, NJ for 33 years, she retired to the Southern Outer Banks of NC in 1996.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ on February 16, 1934, she lived in Union, NJ, and graduated from Union High School. She also attended Mount Vernon Junior College in Washington, DC. She married her beloved, Robert “Bob” Turton, also from Union, NJ, in 1955. They met in nursery school but became best friends in college years that lasted throughout their marriage.
Mimi worked for a couple of regional utility authorities and was executive secretary to the director of the Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority. She also served as a secretary for the Spring Lake Heights Planning Board. She retired from U.S. Life Neptune, NJ before moving to Pine Knoll Shores where she served her Lord as a leader with a Community Bible Study for a number of years. She most recently attended Emerald Isle Baptist Church and spent many hours in study and prayer. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life.
She is survived by her son, Tom Turton and wife Lore of Fayetteville, GA; daughters, Kathy Furtner of Pine Knoll Shores and Nancy Parler of Durham, NC. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Jeff Turton and wife Jenna, Josh Turton and wife Melissa, Jeremy Turton and wife Jennifer, Joe Furtner and wife Kristen, Melissa Klor and husband Wes, Kevin Furtner and wife Madeline, Michael Parler and wife Amber, Matthew Parler, and Katie Parler. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren, Karlee, Ben and Sam Furtner, John and Sarah Klor, and Carrsin Furtner and Noah Turton.
She was predeceased by her best friend and dear husband of 58 years, Bob, as well as her son-in-law, Len Furtner; sister, Judy Riessen Filippello and husband Giorgio of Rome; and brother, Glenn Riessen and wife Susan.
