Milton "Gene" Eugene Hurdle

Milton "Gene" Eugene Hurdle, 82, of Emerald Isle, died Sunday September 9, 2012 at his home.
A Celebration of life ceremony will be held by the family 7:00pm Tuesday at Emerald Isle Baptist Church with Rev. Freddie Braswell officiating.
Gene served in the US Air Force during WWII. Gene worked with various newspapers throughout the state. He began his career with the Daily Advance in Elizabeth City, he had also worked with the Wilson Daily Times, Wilmington Star News, Durham Herald, and retired as managing editor of the Eden Daily Times.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Mary Elmore Hurdle: two sons Laine Hurdle and wife Colleen of Frederick, MD, and Kelly Hurdle of Greenville: three grandchildren Brittany Manley and husband Ryan, Logan Hurdle, and Colby Hurdle: great granddaughter McKenzie Leigh Manley: and one sister Shirley Harris of Elizabeth City.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Mary Hurdle and a brother Vivian Hurdle.
Reception will follow the services at the church.
