Milton Styron, 90, of Davis, NC was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 22, 2015.
The service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 26, at the Davis Original Free Will Baptist Church in Davis, NC with the Rev. Keith Wall officiating. Burial will follow in the Murphy Cemetery on Community Road.
He was born and raised on Davis Shore and graduated from Smyrna High School in 1941. In 1943 he joined the Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. In 1951, while visiting his brother in Manning, SC, he met Ruby Brewer who became the love of his life and they wed March 1, 1953. He was a lifelong commercial fisherman from the age of 13 and active in the community where he was a member of Davis Original Free Will Baptist Church and served as deacon since 1954, the first scoutmaster of the Davis Boy Scouts of America, one of the original group of volunteers for the Davis Volunteer Fire Department, a volunteer in the Jail Ministry, and a strong advocate for the commercial fishing industry. He was an avid gardener and knowledgeable about the stars and the effects of the moon on Earth. He spent his life following the command of Christ to "Love one another as I have loved you."
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 62 years Ruby Brewer Styron, daughter Helen S. Taylor and husband Terence G. "Terry" Taylor of Adams Creek, son Joseph Milton "Milt" Styron and wife Carrie Ann Styron of Davis, grandson Joseph Milton "Joey" Styron, Jr of Wilmington, three granddaughters, Marie Riley and husband George of Wilmington, Lynn Carter and husband Ben of Coinjock, Bethany Styron of Davis; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Chism, and Brooks Carter.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, at the Davis Original Free Will Baptist Church in Davis, NC and other times at the home.
Flowers are welcome, or in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Davis Original Free Will Baptist Church.
