Milan Buttry Willis, 78, of Beaufort, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Carolina East Medical Center with her two children and grandson by her side.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, October 16, 2016 at First Freewill Baptist Church in Beaufort with Rev. Joseph Hall officiating.  Interment will follow the service at Carteret Memorial Gardens.

Milan was born and raised in Carteret County.  At the age of 41, she returned to school where she earned her LPN degree and then began her nursing career at Carteret General Hospital and then as a private duty nurse.  Milan played the piano and organ for over 40 years for the First Freewill Baptist Church in Beaufort as well, she played for numerous weddings and funerals throughout the county.  She was an excellent cook, seamstress, and in her later years began painting.  Most important to her was her role as a devoted wife, mother, and for the past 17 years “Nanny”.  She loved the Lord and will be gravely missed.

Milan is survived by her daughter, Glenda Skinner and husband Steve of New Bern; son, Glenn Willis and wife Shelia of Madison, MS; sister, Gloria Gillikin; grandchild, Zachary Willis; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Norma Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, David Glenn Willis; parents, Joe and Janie (Gabriel) Buttry; brother, R.L. Buttry; and sister, Mary Edwards.

The family will welcome friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.
