Michael Whaley

Michael Whaley, 52, of Newport, passed away peacefully in the arms of his daughter on December 9, 2021, at Carteret Health Care.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 18th, at 1pm. This will be held on the beach out in front of Point Emerald Villas in Emerald Isle. Guests can use Point Emerald Villas for beach access parking and walk out onto the beach from there. The address is 10300 Coast Guard Road, Emerald Isle, NC 28594.

He was born in Washington, DC on January 29, 1969, and his family moved to Eastern NC as a boy. He spent the majority of his adulthood living in Emerald Isle, where he planted his roots and raised his daughter. He recently resided in Newport where he enjoyed his last year with his high school best friend, Michael Piner.

Mike was a lover of the ocean, sunsets, space, and motorcycles. He labored for all he had and loved fierce. He will be so missed.

He is survived by his daughter, Ashli Culpepper and husband Kody Culpepper along with grandoggie, Gunner; mother, Mary Whaley; sister, Lisa Jones and husband Alton Jones; sister, Debra Whaley Miller and husband Todd Miller; and niece, Presley Miller.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Whaley; nephew, Logan Jones; best friend, Neil George; and many other dear friends.
