Michael C. Pevear, 69, died Saturday June 12, 2021. After an arduous battle he succumbed to cancer and passed away peacefully at Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 17, 2021, at St. Egbert’s Catholic Church 1706 Evans St. Morehead City, NC.
Michael was born on July 16, 1951, in Birmingham, AL to Jesse and Margaret Pevear. He graduated from Mountain Brook High School in 1969 and joined the US Army in 1971 where he served until 1982. He attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA where he studied German and Dutch and was subsequently deployed to Vilseck, Germany and later to Heerenberg, The Netherlands. He served as US Army Liaison to Dutch & German Customs combating drug smuggling. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1978 and remained in the reserves until 1982.
In 1983 he entered the US Coast Guard. He was called to active duty and deployed to both Kuwait and Iraq during the Gulf War. He is remembered as being a “logistical wizard” and earned numerous awards and medals during his service.
In 2000, he married the love of his life, Diane. They spent the next 21 years together until his death. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Stetson Pevear Jr and his brother, Jesse Stetson Pevear III. In addition to his wife, surviving are his mother Margaret; his son Michael and wife Jen, daughter Maddie and sons Croix and Cash Pevear; his son Jason and wife Stephanie Pevear; his sisters Peggy Walrod and Grace Pevear; his step son J.T. Windham, wife Shanna, children John Thomas, Stephen Grant and Avalee; and step son Blair Windham, wife Lindsay and daughter Brynn.
Michael will be forever in our hearts and remembered as a man who lived life to the fullest. His love of the ocean was something he passed on to his sons and left them with many fond memories.
