Mike Horne

Mike Horne, 76, of Newport, North Carolina, formerly of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.

A memorial service to honor Mike’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 16th at Munden Funeral Home, in Morehead City, NC officiated by Tony Correll. 

Born on March 3, 1948, Mike was the beloved son of the late George and Lois Horne. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Mike was a devoted Atlanta Braves baseball fan whose enthusiasm for the game was a significant part of his life.

A proud graduate of Georgia State University, he earned his bachelor’s degree in business. Mike's lifelong fascination with trains led him to a fulfilling career at CSX railroad, where he dedicated over 20 years of his life, contributing his skills and passion to the industry.

In his later years, Mike moved to the Crystal Coast of North Carolina, where he became an active member of the Church of Christ of Havelock.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his sister, Ann Maiolo and husband Jerry of Morehead City, NC; nephew, Travis Seymour of London, England; and numerous loving cousins and extended family.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Carteret County Humane Society.
