Early Saturday, June 27, 2015 the Lord came to take His child, Michael Mann aged 35 to be with Him in Glory. Michael was a 1998 graduate of West Carteret High School where he was a cross country runner and wrestler. After high school Michael attended East Carolina University. He was a former park ranger with Cape Lookout National Seashore. In 2008 Michael opened Cape Lookout Conch Tours, a truck touring service along the shores of Cape Lookout National Seashore. Many beachgoers from as far away as Germany and Australia enjoyed a spirited storyline as they traveled the shores of Cape Lookout with Michael at the wheel. Michael was extremely proud of his two nieces, Lauren and Hannah who returned to Carteret County each year during the summer months. He would spend hours with them laughing and telling them the local folklore, his version of course. He was one of the longest running campers at Camp Morehead, having arrived there at 3 months old in 1980 and attending until it closed in 1995. He would often tell the girls stories of the mischievous things that he would do during camp. Michael loved the Crystal Coast and never wanted to be anywhere else. He would tell anyone that would listen, what a great place Carteret County is. He never met a stranger, and everyone that talked with Michael became instant friends.
Michael is survived by his parents, Mike and Carol Mann of Newport; paternal grandma, Pearl Mann of Newport; sisters Kathryne Mann Capps and fiancé Jayson Troball of Newport and Rebecca Mann Warren and husband Joey of Clinton, NC; two nieces Lauren Shutts and Hannah Shutts of Cache, Oklahoma and his beloved dog Taco. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Mary and Andy Keels; paternal grandpa B.A. Mann; sister Andrea Mann Shutts and fiancée Lori Bowman.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 2 at Cape Carteret Baptist Church from 1:00 until 3:00 with a Celebration of Life following in the church chapel at 3:00. Graveside services will be at Gethsemane Gardens Memorial Park following the Celebration of Life.
