MGySgt Victor J. Sgroi Jr., USMC Retired, 75, of Havelock, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at his home.
His memorial service, with military honors, will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 13th, at Munden Funeral Home in Havelock, officiated by Father Jim Buchholz.
Victor was born on September 15, 1946, in the Bronx, New York to the late Victor Sgroi Sr. and Josephine Sgroi. Faithfully serving in the United States Marine Corps for nearly 30 years, Victor retired as a highly decorated Master Gunnery Sergeant. The dedication he displayed was recognized with numerous awards and medals including the Good Conduct Medal with 8 Stars, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal with 5 Stars, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation with 1 Star, Certificate of Commendation, Navy Achievement Medal, and a Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. As a veteran he was a proud member of the VFW Lodge #7315 where he exemplified what it is to be a patriot to his country.
He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Eilene Sgroi, of the home; stepdaughters, Melissa Dombroski and husband Chuck of Gibsonia, PA, Barbara Holzapfel and husband Karl of Emerald Isle, and Marlana Camarda of Pittsburg, PA; stepson, Christopher Camarda and wife Kris of Acworth, GA; sister, Patricia Sgroi of Winston-Salem; brother, Kenneth Sgroi of Florida; grandchildren, Chucky, Rebecca, Nicole, Vince, Vaughn Shane and Courtney; great-grandchild, Jaxx; and furry companion, Buddy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepson, Mark Camarda and brother, Robert Sgroi.
