Mattie Grey Willis

Mattie Grey Willis, 86, of Harkers Island, passed away peacefully Friday, March 16, 2018 at her home, with her family by her side.

Funeral services are set for Monday, March 19, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Harkers Island. Interment will follow at Vergie Mae Cemetery, Harkers Island.

Mattie was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Harkers Island, where she was a member of the choir and ladies chorus. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked many years at Seaside Galley on Harkers Island, enjoying baking biscuits and fellowshipping with fellow employees and customers. One of her favorite past times was swinging under the trees and rocking in her favorite chair.

She is survived by her daughters, Wendy Lewis and husband, Jeff, of Marshallberg, Lynn Guthrie and husband, Vernon, of Davis, Carla Spencer and husband, Mike, of Rocky Point; son, Kyle Willis and wife, Marnie, of Bettie; brother, Miles M. Willis and wife, Mae, of Harkers Island; 8 grandchildren, Misty, Jeffrey, Shelly, Hava, Tyler, Lauren, Joey, Nathan; 4 great-grandchildren, Ashton, Jaxson, Dalton, Julia Grey; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie C. “Blackie” Willis, her parents, Carl and Clara Willis, and 2 brothers, Charles F. Willis and Hugh Allen Willis.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Harkers Island.
