Matthew "Jimini" Gilson

Matthew “Jimini” Gilson, 52, of Newport, passed away Monday, February 12, 2024, at his home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be announced. The family would welcome guests to visit the home.

Jimini was born on June 2, 1971, in Fayetteville, NC, to Lawrence Gilson and Sandra Baker. Jimini had a passion for the outdoors, especially on the water breathing in the salt air, and the thrill of deep-sea fishing. You could always find him working with his hands, anything with wood or projects around the house.

Jimini was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he cheered on his beloved team with unwavering loyalty. His enthusiasm was infectious and loved every moment of watching the games with his friends and family. He never met a stranger and cherished his family and friends. May his memory be a treasure to all who knew and loved him.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, D.Ann Gilson of the home; father, Lawrence Gilson; mother, Sandra Baker; step-father, J.T. Baker; daughter, Jennifer Nicole Hansen; sons, James Michael Hansen, Daniel Allan Hansen; sister, Regina Nelson (Daryl) of New Bern, NC; brother, James Baker of Maryland; three grandsons; one granddaughter; and nephew Rick Nelson.
