Master Sgt. Edward Ed "Happy" Day (USAF Retired), 82, of New Bern, NC, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

A Gathering of Family and Friends to honor Ed's life will be held at 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., Sunday, December 3rd at Munden Funeral Home in Havelock with military honors.

Ed was born on January 20, 1941, in South Portland, Maine, to the late Robert and Winona Day. He grew up in South Portland, Maine and after finishing his schooling he became a dedicated member of the United States Air Force. Ed joined the Air Force back in 1960, serving for over 26 years with honor and integrity.

After retiring from the Air Force, he embraced his free time, becoming a true jack of all trades. Ed had a passion for carpentry and working with his hands. He found joy in capturing life's moments through the lens of a camera. Ed had a keen eye for beauty and preserving memories for generations to come. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and the indelible mark of a life well-lived.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Dawn Day of the home; daughters, Shelly Gerrish (Edward) of North Port, FL, Kimberly Chatmen of Gardiner, ME, Heather Chatmen of Bangor, ME, Pamela Carr (Milton) of New Bern, NC; son, Thomas Taylor (Sophia) of Okinawa, Japan; sister, Marlene Russell of Yarmouth, ME; sisters-in-law, Carol Day, Judith Day, Deane Brown; father and mother-in-law, Dave and Carol Brown of New Bern, NC; grandchildren, Daniel Gerrish of North Point, FL, Theresa Gerrish of North Point, FL, Hailey Taker of Gardiner, ME, Samantha Thorton of Gardiner, ME, Chris Basurto of Troy, AL, Logan Daniel of Troy, AL, Gina Basurto (Georgina) of Ft. Carson, Colorado Springs, CO, Angel Carr of New Bern, NC, and Andrea Coyazo, Ester Coyazo, Malia Taylor, and Neveah Taylor, all of Arlington, TX.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brothers, George and Rodger Day, and brother-in-law, Harry Russell.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a Veteran's charity organization of your choice.
