Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” (Faulkner) O’Meara, 79, of Morehead City, quietly departed this life and went to eternal rest with our Lord on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Carteret Health Care.

At an early age Betsy professed her faith in Jesus Christ. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she had served faithfully in the choir and numerous volunteer events. Betsy was united in holy matrimony to her loving husband, John Raymond O’Meara, on December 15, 1962, who preceded her in death in August 2005.

As a result of her generous spirit and sweet personality she was loved by many. Her Christian life was as beautiful as a delicate flower and her influence will forever remain in the lives of those who knew her. She sustained several hobbies including cooking for her family, playing bingo and most importantly the game of bridge which blessed her with many faithful friends. Her last days were filled with immense joy from the love and entertainment provided to her by her youngest great grandchild Evelynn “Evee” Petersen and her ever faithful dog, Polly.

A memorial service for Betsy will be conducted by the family at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 10, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, Morehead City with the Rev. Powell Osteen officiating.

Betsy is survived by her; daughters, Sharon A. O’Meara and husband David Tallant, Deborah E. Watts and husband David; sons, Thomas S. O’Meara and wife Dana, James P. O’Meara, John O’Meara; sister, Joan Posner and husband Don; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
