Mary Emma (Harris) Smith

Mary Emma Harris Smith, 75, of Newport, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Carolina East Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Thursday at Newport Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Gary Carroll officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Mary was born April 7, 1937 in Craven County to the late Roscoe and Lydia Mae Nobles Harris. She worked at the Eckerds Wilderness Camp for 18 years, and was known as Mom Mary to all. She was a member of Newport Baptist Church.
She is survived by three children, Rachel S. Pophal of Newport, Tracy Marie Smith of Newport, Sandra Melissa Matthews and husband Ryland Matthews, Jr. of Dover ; six grandchildren, Brandy N. Van Horn and husband Brandon Van Horn, Amanda L. Heath, Stephen Taylor, Bobbie Taylor, Mary Taylor, Ryland Matthews, III and wife Kristen, and Jeffery Matthews; one great- grandchild, Johnny Ray; and one sister, Lucy E. Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy D. Smith, son, Troy L. Smith, granddaughter, Candy Lynn Brown, sister, Alice Clement, and brother, Robert Harris.
The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Wednesday at Newport Baptist Church.
