Mary Heflin MacLeod

Mrs. Mary Heflin MacLeod, 96, of Havelock, North Carolina, formerly of Roseville, Virginia, passed away in the quiet hours of February 20, 2018 at Crystal Bluffs & Health Care Facility in Morehead City, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Croatan Freewill Baptist Church, 7028 Highway 70 East, New Bern, with Rev. Harry Bryan officiating. Interment to follow at Forest Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. MacLeod was born February 23, 1921 to the late Carroll and Almia Heflin. During World War II, she worked at Quantico Marine Corp base where she met and married Gunnery Sgt. Edward H. MacLeod and moved to Havelock, North Carolina for over 60 years.

Mary was a homemaker. She enjoyed outdoor cooking with her husband and entertaining family and friends.  Her biggest joy was forming a singing group in 1995 and sharing their talents with surrounding nursing facilities.

She is survived by her nieces, Sylvia Boggs, Shirley Gonzales, Joan Hayden, Doris Copen, Marian Nichols, Juanita Gallahan.

She was preceded in death by her son Tommy Carneal; husband, Edward H. MacLeod; sisters, Lillian Owens, Catherine Fines, Edith Owens, Florence Lumpkin and Blanche Parker; brothers, Wallace Heflin, Perry Heflin and Hildra Heflin; niece, Dorothy Owens.

Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Croatan Freewill Baptist Church.

Family and friends would like to extend a special “Thank you” to her caregivers at Crystal Bluffs & Health Care Facility for showing excellent care during her extended stay.
