Mary Lou Arthur Mason

May 1, 1935 — April 5, 2018

Mary Lou Arthur Mason, 82, of Beaufort passed away at home on April 5th, 2018.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 9th, 2018 at North River United Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend David Jones. Interment will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens.

Mary was a faithful Christian who believed in the Bible. Together, she and her husband, Elton, raised four children in the Christian faith. She was an avid member of the church at North River United Methodist.

Mary had a kind and gentle soul. She was a caregiver to her husband for many years before his death. Mary was a good listener also and loved life and people.

Gardening was a favorite pastime and she knew the names of every flower and plant in her yard. In Mary's later years, she loved to watch the birds outside her window. It gave her great joy as she loved all of God's creatures.

Mary was an excellent cook who always put a lot of love into everything she served. Her world revolved around cooking and making people happy. Her yeast rolls we're to die for and she made the most delicious Pot Roast.
Mary attended Smyrna High School and was very smart and enjoyed learning. Even as she got older she stayed up to date on current affairs.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Mason Illingworth and husband, Arthur, of Columbia, SC; sons, Greg Mason and wife, Teresa, of Newport, Lee Mason of Beaufort; brother, Don Arthur of Morehead City; grandchildren, Michelle Hall, Keith McVicker, Mary Alexis Goodwin, Elayna Eyquem, William Illingworth, Shaun Mason, Jordan Sanderson Murray; and great-grandchildren, Madison Hall, Makenna Hall, Ryan Mason, Adelynn Mason, McCallum Illingworth, Parker Illingworth, Harlan Eyquem, Anders Eyquem, Kameron McVicker, Kade McVicker, Alex McVicker.
