Mary Hadley Fike Griffin, 88, of Morehead City, NC, and formerly of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Carteret Landing.

The family will celebrate Mary Hadley’s life at 11:00 a.m., December 14, 2024, at First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City, NC. The family will receive family and friends directly after the service in the Fellowship Hall.

Mary Hadley was born on June 3, 1936, in Wilson, NC, to the late Dr. Ralph L. Fike and Louise Woodard Fike. A longtime resident of Elizabeth City, she was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Elizabeth City. She had a deep appreciation for the arts and was also a member of the Arts of the Albemarle.

Mary Hadley had a passion for playing bridge and relished the moments shared with her friends during their frequent gatherings. Her career of owning a marine business reflected her love for the water, where she found joy in sailing, boating, and fishing. Mary Hadley also cherished her loyal Labrador retrievers, who were her steadfast companions throughout her life.

In addition to her personal pursuits, Mary Hadley was a proud member of the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America. She dedicated her efforts to promoting the historic preservation of significant sites and artifacts, inspiring others to appreciate and learn about American history.

Mary Hadley's legacy is one of friendship, love for the arts, and a commitment to preserving the past for future generations. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her sons, Lloyd E. Griffin III of Elizabeth City, NC, and Ralph Fike Griffin and wife Kristine of Morehead City, NC; sister, Llewellyn Fike Ramsey of Atlantic Beach, NC; grandchildren, Ann Hadley Griffin and Ralph Fike Griffin Jr.; and numerous cousins and extended family who she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents, Mary Hadley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Lloyd E. Griffin Jr.; sister, Louise Woodard Fike; and brother-in-law, William E. Ramsey Jr.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arts of the Albemarle, 516 E Main St., Elizabeth City, NC 27909, National Society of The Colonial Dames of America, 2715 Q St. NW, Washington, DC 20007, or First United Methodist Church, 201 S. Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
