Mary “Memaw” Greene

Mary “Memaw” Greene, 87, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

Mary was born on August 30, 1937, in Wilmington, NC, to the late Leo and Lily McDuffy. Her passion for cooking was evident in the delicious meals she prepared for her family and friends. Her love for seafood and hearty gatherings brought joy to many, as she never missed an opportunity to share a good meal with those she cared for. 

In addition to her culinary talents, Mary was an accomplished bowler, who enjoyed the sport with enthusiasm and as well as the camaraderie it fostered among her friends. A devoted fan of Elvis Presley, Mary cherished his remarkable voice and charismatic presence, collecting memorabilia that held great sentimental value to her.

Affectionately known as Memaw by her loved ones, she will be remembered for her unwavering support and love as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mary will be remembered as a loving and supportive mother, and proud grandmother and great grandmother who loved her family dearly.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her loving daughters, Angela Ruble (Matthew) of Newport, NC, Cheryl Desiderio (Edwin) of Elizabeth City, NC, Michelle Tarr (Darren) of St. Leonard, MD, and Casey Sigman of Newport, NC; grandchildren, Jonathon, Vanessa, Maegan, Candice, Rebecca, Shannon, Anissa, and Juan; and great-grandchildren, Alanah, Everleigh, Kinleigh, Sadie, and Cru.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her sister and 4 brothers.
