Mary Craig

Mary Garner Craig, 93, of Newport, died Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Carteret General Hospital.
Mary became a member of Newport Baptist Church in 1953. She attended the church's homecoming celebration on May 16th. She and her husband, Aaron Craig were part of a missionary group, which establshed McCotter Boulevard Baptist Church in Havelock in 1988. The family business, Craig's Boarding Kennel, established in 1963, was managed by Mary for 30 years.
Services will be held 2:00 pm Friday at Newport Baptist Church with interment following in Amariah Garner Cemetery.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Frances Garner, brother, Monroe Garner and sister, Cherry La Shan, all of Newport; grandchildren, Ana McClanahan and Craig McClanahan and wife Jackie; great grandchildren, Ariana Nelson, Aaron Nelson and Michael McClanahan; 18 nieces and 11 nephews. Mary also considered her long time friend, Leigh Finney, her friends at church, and the staff and residents at Britthaven of Newport as family. Her generous and loving spirit will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Craig in 1995.
The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday at Munden Funeral Home.
