Mary Magdalene Foy Bercegeay, age 92, Newport, NC, passed away peacefully at home on February 8, 2018.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Munden Funeral Home Chapel in Morehead City, NC. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Newport, NC.
Mary was a native of Trenton, N.C., and daughter of the late Clem Foy and Laura Nina Hawkins. Known to many of her friends and family as Ethel, she was a past President of the Newport Garden Club and loved designing floral arrangements. Mary was also a creative poet and an exceptional cook. She was an active former member of Newport Baptist Church and later as a member of Bread of Life Ministries in Newport. She loved the Lord above all. Mary’s church congregation knew her for her kindness, support, and encouragement to others. She had a selfless and uplifting spirit that touched many people. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and a devoted wife of 60 years to her husband Les, who preceded her in death in 2007.
Mary is survived by two sons, Mark Bercegeay and wife, Charlotte, of Raleigh, and Brian Bercegeay of Newport; two daughters, Ellen Day and husband, Richard, of Morehead City, and Bonnie Bercegeay of Newport; two sisters, Kathleen Mills of Shawnee, KS, and Grace Liggan of Kinston; brother, Manly Foy and wife, Annie Mae, of Kinston; sisters-in-law, Thelma Grace Foy of Trenton and Virginia Bercegeay of Broussard, LA; three grandchildren, Travis Day and wife, Mary of Morehead City, Rusty Day of Charleston, SC, and Kevin Day of Morehead City; two great grandchildren, Dylan and Anderson Day; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Bercegeay; five brothers, Woodrow Foy, Bruce Foy, Randolph Foy, Osborne Foy, and Edgar Foy; two sisters, Juanita Gerock, and Ruth Hammer; two brothers-in-law, David Bercegeay and wife, Barbara and Emanuel Paul Bercegeay; sister-in-law, Anne Caffery and husband, Patrick.
The family especially thanks the caregivers for their help and loving kindness during Mary’s illness.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home.
