Marvin "Jack" Spencer III, 63, of Beaufort, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at his home surrounded by family.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Jack was a Carteret County Native, born in 1949 to Marvin and Alice Spencer. Living most of his childhood in Newport, NC he moved to Beaufort, NC as a teenager.

Jack was a graduate of NC State University in 1972, majoring in Political Science. He was an avid State fan, loving all Wolfpack  sports. His favorite sport was basketball which he continued to play as an adult. After graduating from NCSU, his love for the coast and family brought him back to Carteret County. In the summer of 1972 he married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Linda Lewis Spencer. In 1973, he became co-owner of Spencer and Allen Construction Company building commercial as well as residential homes. In 1982 he became owner and operator of Spencer Construction Co. specializing in custom residential building and remodling. In 1999 a massive stroke took him out of the construction business which was a great loss to our community.

Jack was talented and creative with honest integrity. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who were blessed to have known him. He was a man of strong conviction, but humble. He will be missed.

Jack is survived by his wife of 41 years Linda L. Spencer; son Marvin Spencer IV of Wilmington; daughter Jennifer Spencer Gibbs of Morehead City; three grandchildren Violet Monet Gibbs, Genevieve Katherine Spencer, and Isabella Maxine Spencer;in-laws Earl and Maxine Lewis; a brother Louis Spencer and wife Aynsley of Charlotte; two sisters Nancy Mason of Newport, and Gwen McQueen and husband Bill of Wilmington; and three nieces Aliza Spencer, Rachel Lewis, and Stephanie Turner.
