Marvin Hardison Sr., 76, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024, at his home.
Born on March 24, 1947, in Morehead City, North Carolina, Marvin was the son of the late James and Elizabeth Hardison. He had a deep connection with his hometown and was known for his extensive knowledge of Carteret County history. Marvin's great personality and friendly demeanor made him a cherished member of our community.
Marvin was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and served his country with honor for four years. After his military service, Marvin worked as a mechanic and then later as a boiler room operator at NADEP, Cherry Point. His expertise extended beyond that, as he possessed a remarkable ability to repair small engines, ranging from everyday machines to the complexity of diesel engines.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 29 years, Sherry Hardison; children, Cristy Hardison and husband Marcial Rodriguez, Lisa Merkerson, and Sam Hardison, all of Newport; grandchildren, Brandon, Matthew, Mikel, and Amber; and great-grandchildren, Lacy, Logan, Lettie, and Lizzie.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his son, Marvin Hardison Jr. and siblings, Edna Murdoch and Walter Hardison.
