Marvin Lee Guthrie

Marvin Lee Guthrie, 92, of Morehead City, passed away Friday, April 19­, 2019, at Carteret Health Care.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Graham Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church, officiated by Rev. Bill Hooper and Pastor Elizabeth Willis.

Marvin was born and raised on Harkers Island. He had a gift with wood working and spent his life as a master cabinet maker. He built and did home installations as well as teaching his trade at Carteret Community College. Marvin was a Godly man who delighted in ministering to others. In 2012, he started Unity Ministry outreach to the local nursing homes. His faith was also expressed through poetry and songs that he wrote. Marvin never met a stranger and was willing to witness to all he encountered. He was a loyal and devoted husband for 69 years and will be fondly remembered as a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Alice “Betty” W. Guthrie of Morehead City; daughter, Elizabeth Olese Lenhart and husband Scott of Havelock; son, Marvin Leland Guthrie and wife Stella of Beaufort; caregiver, Clem Gillikin of Morehead City; 8 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hardin Guthrie and Mary Ella Davis; step-father, Ernest “Cooter” Davis; great-grandson, Johnathan Griffin, Jr.; 2 sisters; and 1 brother.

Family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Graham Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church,
