Martha Huber Eshleman, 72, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2022 at home on hospice care surrounded by her family after a hard fought battle with leukemia.
Martha was born in New Haven, CT on September 16, 1949, the third of three children, to Arthur Phillip and Mary Catherine (Donovan) Huber. She graduated from Amity High School in Orange, CT in 1967 and then went on to Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, NY, graduating in 1971. Martha inherited a deep devotion to family and friends, a love of adventure, and a wonderful sense of humor from her parents. She always placed her family first and was an amazing mother to her three sons. Her first real taste of adventure came when she joined the Peace Corps shortly after college and moved to Africa.
When her husband, Marty’s career took the family to South America, she embraced every single experience. A long time elementary school teacher, Martha had the chance to teach, guide, and mentor many children in the countries in which she had the opportunity to live. Martha loved a good laugh with family and the countless friends she remained close to throughout her life.
She loved to entertain and family and friends always looked forward to a big annual Christmas party and other smaller events throughout the year.
She is survived by her devoted husband of almost 50 years, Marty; her three sons, Robert (Margaret), Michael (Lauren) and Thomas; her brother, Stacy Huber (Dee); her sister, Mary Ellen Petty (William); countless friends; and her beloved grandchildren, Charlie and Mary Grace.
Martha and her family are particularly grateful for the wonderful care she received at the Duke University Adult Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic in Durham, NC as well as at the Raab Cancer Clinic in Morehead City, NC and from the caring professionals of Carteret County Hospice.
