Marshall Drake Barnard, 67, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Carteret Health Care.
A celebration of Marshall’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 21st at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Chaplain Mark Holland. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
Marshall was born on December 31, 1956, in Jacksonville, NC, to Norman Aleck Barnard and Doris Marshburn Rumberg. A proud member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans organization, Marshall embraced his heritage with honor and commitment.
Marshall spent over 40 years working with Joyce & Associates Construction, where he excelled as a Superintendent Quality Control Safety Officer. His dedication to his career was evident in his meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and proactive approach to ensuring safety on the job site. He was fondly referred to as "Boss Man," a title he carried with pride.
At the heart of Marshall's life was his family. He took great pride in working hard to provide for them and approached life with joy and gratitude. He was a loving husband for 45 years and a dedicated father and grandfather, leaving behind a legacy of love and commitment. His life serves as a testament to the values of hard work, dedication, and love for family.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Kathi Reed Barnard; sons, Joseph Reed Barnard (fiancé Dana Blakemore) of New Bern, NC and William “Billy” Patrick Barnard (Mandy Elizabeth) of Newport; mother, Doris Marshburn Rumberg of Jacksonville, NC; sisters, Norma Ellen Popwell (Raymond) of Richlands, NC, Pamela Suzanne Baker (Jimmy) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, and Lori Ann Floyd (Johnny) of Jacksonville, NC; brother, Craig Edward Barnard (Tracy) of Jacksonville, NC; grandchildren, Layla Breeze Barnard, Ember Willow Barnard, Drake Kane Barnard, and Ellie Blakemore; and his furry friend, his dog, Lilybelle.
In addition to his parents, Marshall was preceded in death by his father, Norman Aleck Barnard; stepfather, Jerry Mooney Rumberg; brother, Aleck Lee Barnard; and granddaughter, Siddalee Rain Plunkett.
