Marlan H. Murphy, 90, of Beaufort, passed away Friday, April 1, 2016 at Carteret Health Care.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, April 4, 2016 at Beaufort First Baptist Church with Reverends Michael Fields and John Thompson officiating.  Interment to follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens with full military honors and masonic rites.

Marlan and his twin brother, Harlan were born January 23, 1926 to the late Manly and Winnie Murphy in Davis, NC.  He was proud to serve his country for 30 years and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer IV.  He served In the U.S. Navy for two and a half years during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific where he was initiated into the Solemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of the Deep.  The remainder of his military service was with the U.S. Coast Guard on the East Coast. He retired as the Operations Officer of US Coast Guard Base Fort Macon, Atlantic Beach, NC.

After his military service, he worked for Barbour’s Marine Supply in Beaufort and Cape Canaveral, FL and finished his career with B & J Seafood in James City.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beaufort where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Brotherhood Director and was a licensed minister.  He was a lifetime member of Franklin Masonic Lodge #109, VFW Post #2401, the Retired Officers Association and Chief Warrant Officers Association USCG.  He was conferred the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor Robert W Scott.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Neel Murphy; his children, Jo Anne Murphy, Gary Murphy and his companion Laura, Terry Rogers and Donna Murphy, all of Beaufort; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one step grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Manly and Winnie; his brothers, Julian and twin Harlan; son, Gregory Murphy; and grandson Jamie Taylor.

The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 pm Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Munden Funeral Home, Morehead City.
