Marion Louise Gaskins Davis, 96, of Newport, was born on September 24, 1925 and passed away on June 6, 2022. She was the eldest child born to Louise Guthrie Gaskins and William David Gaskins.
Marion was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gerald Davis, sister, Joyce Gaskins White, brother, Jack Booth, son, Gerald Davis II, daughter, Frances Davis Cushwa, son, Danny Davis, and his wife, Jenny.
She is survived by her two sisters, Billie Louise Gaskins Wade and Judy Gaskins Crisp; son, Phil Davis; and son-in-law, Michael Cushwa. Also surviving include her grandchildren, Scott Davis, Jeremy Davis, Charles Davis, Chris Davis, Nichole Davis Heine, Kaaren Cushwa Haworth, Hunter Cushwa, Kathryn Cushwa Gerace, Timothy Davis, Rebecca Causey, Ben Davis; 20 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-great-grandchildren.
Marion grew up in Camp Glenn and was a Carteret County resident her whole life. Her mother passed away when she was a young child and she was raised by her grandmother Britney “Brittie” Willis Guthrie and her father. She met Gerald Davis at the skating rink in Morehead City and a few years later they were married.
Marion was raised to love the Lord. His word permeated every part of her life and gave her the strength to weather storms and sunny days alike. While raising four children, Marion was always an active member of her church. She sang in the choir, was involved in the women's ministries and taught Sunday school. Marion enjoyed traveling, camping, boating, fishing, and sailing.
After her husband retired, Marion and Gerald worked side by side to build and run a successful doll and decoy shop. She participated in the regional doll guild and the Core Sound Decoy Guild. Her large family brought much joy to her life. She had such a big heart and was always willing to share it. Marion was quick to say a daily prayer for those around her. Now it’s our turn to say a prayer to a special angel who has gone home.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 10, at the Crystal Coast Church of the Nazarene in Morehead City. Interment will follow at Bayview Cemetery. If you are unable to attend, services can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website, www.mundenfuneralhome.net.
