Beloved mother, grandmother, friend and pioneer of professional women Marilyn Joan Novina, 81, departed this world Tuesday, March 20th and now resides in heaven. She was a resident of Jacksonville for ten years where her energetic and positive attitude was a joy to her family and friends. As an active member of Pine Valley United Methodist Church, her thoughtfulness and generosity was a gift and inspiration.
For thirty years Joan worked in the field of education; first as a teacher, later as a Speech and Language Pathologist and ultimately as Director of Special Education for Los Angeles county schools.
Joan was a lifelong learner and never ceased her pursuit of knowledge. Joan was preceded in death by her father Arvol A. Adams, mother Leona Loy Adams, brother Charles Gene Adams and husband Adam S. Novina
She is survived by son Martin Thomas Cook and family of Boerne, TX and son Patrick Kenneth Cook and family of Jacksonville, NC.
A private service will be held by the family.
