Marilyn Murdoch, 76, of Newport, went to her heavenly home to be with our Father on Saturday, July 29th 2017 at Carteret Health Care.

The Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 1st, 2017, at Wildwood Presbyterian Church with Reverend Robbie Phillips officiating.

Marilyn was a loving wife to her husband for almost 56 years. They cared deeply for each other which reflected in the love that was also shown to their children, grandchildren and any who met them. Marilyn sacrificed so much of her life caring for her son whom succumbed to Muscular Dystrophy at the young age of 39. She also loved dearly her daughter and son providing unwavering care and friendship. She was a beloved grandmother to four beautiful grandchildren whom she raised with their parents and loved as deeply and just maybe more. She taught her family to cook using her abundant vegetables from the garden. She inspired her children to be imaginative and be creative in whatever their talent be as she was an artist. She never wavered from a challenge. She enjoyed trail rides on her paint horse, Showdown, or just riding down a dirt road on daddy's Kubota.  She was ready for anything whether it be whitewater rafting or kayaking to Carrot Island. Always ready to go and see what was awaiting just around the bend in the trail. She was a longtime member of Wildwood Presbyterian Church where she served as the Church Treasurer as well as cherished choir member. She volunteered as an Certified EMT at the Wildwood Fire Department for many years. She worked as a Teacher's Aide at Newport Elementary School and is now a member in the "HasBeens" of Newport Elementary always looking forward to their get togethers. She fought cancer with all she had with the help of the compassionate team of physicians and staff at the Leo Jenkins Cancer Center and Vidant Medical Center. She won her battle and beat esophageal cancer, not once but twice with overwhelming odds against her. She was and is a best friend to all who knew her. She will be truly and deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband, William Murdoch of the home; daughter, Sherry Tant and husband Bobby of Newport; son, Timothy Murdoch and wife Karen of New Bern; brother Martin Brittingham, Jr. of Newport; grandchildren, Stephanie Murdoch, Charlotte Ashleigh and husband Justin Russell , Micah Rice, all of Newport.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, William "Billy" M. Murdoch; parents, Martin and Charlotte Brittingham; and brother, Francis "Frankie" Brittingham.

Family will see friends an hour prior to the service at the church.
